Monica’s Journey to Africa

Hey everyone! My name is Monica and I’m a 23-year old from Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from nursing school last year, I decided to move to Louisville, Kentucky to study the Word of God at Southern Seminary. My first year there was a crazy one (attending school full-time by day and working as a full-time nurse by night!) If God had not filled me with His joy and strength, I would not have made it through!

In August of 2010, I will be taking a break from my busy routine by moving to Sub-Saharan Africa. I will be there until January 2011, working for a Christian organization. Due to the nature of the work and security concerns, I cannot name the country I will be in on my blog. (Please remember this when you are leaving comments! Thank you!)

Before and during my stay, here are some things you can always be praying for:

• Money is tight – please pray that I will have peace in trusting that God will provide financially for the trip ($2,800), supplies I will need for it, and other living expenses before and after my time there
• Decisions to be made – while in Africa, I will be considering whether I will return to seminary next year or if God wants me to pursue something else at that time
• Health and safety – foreign travel always presents new risks, so please pray that God will protect me and that I will trust in His sovereignty over my life
• My own faithfulness – please pray that I will grow in my relationship with the Lord, enjoy my assigned duties, and will develop strong relationships with both my co-workers and those I seek to minister to
• Comfort – though I am excited about the adventure ahead of me, I know there will be times when I feel lonely, discouraged, tired or just in culture shock… pray that during those times the Lord will comfort me
